The 10 Most Equal U.S. Cities

Income inequality in the United States continues to grow, but in some places, wealth is spread far more evenly than in others. Economists determine income equality by using the Gini index, which is measured on a scale ranging from 0 (perfect equality) to 1 (perfect inequality). These are the 10 U.S. metropolitan areas (pop. 300,000 or greater) with the lowest estimated Gini measures, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2009 Current Population Survey. Also listed for each city are countries with similar Gini measures, according to the CIA World Factbook.
